Renewal of LMD

posted Mar 12, 2017, 8:39 PM by Mason Benson Center
Just a heads up to all our Mason Lake waterfront owners:  The 10 year term of the Lake Management District #2 (LMD#2) which is responsible for the inspection and treatment of noxious plants in the lake, will expire at the end of this year.  In order to continue the work of the Milfoil/SAG commmittee in it's efforts to control and eliminate noxious plants in Mason Lake, an election to renew will need to occur later this year.  In order to have this election, we need to submit to the Mason County Commissioners signed petitions from lake front property owners on Mason Lake. Approx. 400 signatures (20% of lakefront owners) will be needed for the Commissioners to act on. Once we have those, the Commissioners will put forth a resolution, public hearings and input will be scheduled, and ballots will go out to the lakefront property owners for voting.  If approved, another resolution will be put forth to renew the LMD for an additional 10 years.

We are asking for 11 cents per $1000 valuation.  This amount is the same as it has been for the past 10 years.  On a home appraised by the county at $500,000 it will mean $55 per year going towards continued inspection and treatments of invasive and noxious species in our lake.

The petition drive will begin next week at the potluck, and continue through out the coming months, till we have enough to submit to the County Commissioners.  I know many of you are summer and weekend visitors, rather than year rounders, so I will be happy to come to your home if you will be here only at a specific date or time.
The committee and myself our volunteers.  We have not interest in this endevor other than the continued health of Mason Lake.  I'm happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the LMD and the coming petition drive.
